During his term as the President of India from 1962 to 1967, students and friends requested Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan to host widespread celebrations for his birthday. However, the great Indian academic, philosopher and statesman denied having a pompous celebration and said that he would be much happier if the day were marked as Teachers’ Day, which reflected the President’s respect for educators and their contribution.

Echoing his sentiments, students all over India celebrate Teachers’ Day by appreciating the work and the legacy of their favourite teachers and expressing gratitude for their impactful role.
