New York Fashion Week has always been a stage for breaking boundaries, and this season, one of the most striking debuts came from Vivian Jenna Wilson, daughter of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. At just 21, Vivian took her first confident steps onto the runway, marking both a personal and cultural milestone in the fashion world.

Vivian Wilson walked for Brooklyn-based designer Alexis Bittar, who unveiled his Spring/Summer 2026 presentation titled ‘Miss USA 1991.’ The concept was rooted in a dreamlike, pageant-inspired universe: one that examined misogyny, objectification, and trans rights through a surrealist lens. Wilson represented South Carolina in the show, donning a sparkling sequined gown with flutter sleeves and a sash emblazoned with “Miss Carolina.”

Bittar later shared moments from the runway on Instagram, writing, “Theme MISS USA 1991: a dream sequence, it is a story about misogyny, unchecked predators, objectification and trans rights. Thank you for trusting me, Vivian, and honouring me with your first show as Miss South Carolina.”

Vivian Wilson and Elon Musk

Vivian’s appearance comes against a backdrop of her public estrangement from her father. Born Xavier Alexander Musk to Musk and his first wife, author Justine Wilson, Vivian legally changed her name and gender in 2022, stating she no longer wished to be associated with her father. Her chosen name, Vivian, comes from a character in one of her favourite online games, Paladins.

She came out as transgender at 16, and her journey has been widely reported, particularly given Musk’s public comments. In a 2024 interview, Musk controversially referred to his daughter using her birth name and described her transition as the work of a “woke mind virus.”

A Defining Fashion Week Statement

While her family dynamic remains strained, Vivian’s runway debut stands apart as a declaration of independence and resilience. Her presence in Alexis Bittar’s show reinforced the collection’s themes of visibility and reclamation, ensuring her moment was not just about fashion, but about identity and representation on one of the world’s most visible stages.
