As the rainy season comes, people often start experiencing various issues related to digestion. From sluggishness and low energy to feeling bloated, people experience such issues due to slowed digestion. However, consuming the right food and shifting to healthy eating habits can significantly help in the monsoon.

What Causes Digestive Issues In Monsoon?

During an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Smita Naram, co-founder of Ayushakti, talked about various habits one can include in their routine to get rid of digestion issues. Explaining why monsoon is tough on health, she said, “According to ayurveda, our Agni (digestive fire) naturally slows down during this season, which can disrupt our health and immunity.” She further revealed that when digestion is impaired, not only does the energy fluctuate, but it immediately drops and imbalances our doshas. “Ayurveda states that gut health is the cornerstone of overall well-being, particularly during monsoon when the body is more receptive to internal imbalances,” she added.

Ayurvedic Tips For Gut Reset In Monsoon

Dr. Smita further shared a guide, highlighting 5 key practices to include in daily routines to avoid digestion issues in the monsoon:

Kadha

Kadha is one of the easiest and most useful steps you can take to improve gut health during monsoon. A hot mixture of ginger, cumin, and tulsi reinforces digestion, eliminating toxins and improving natural immunity.

CCF Tea

Ayurveda commonly recommends CCF tea, which can be prepared with 1 teaspoon of cumin, coriander, and fennel seeds in warm water. CCF tea helps decrease inflammation and calms the nervous system. If it is consumed early in the morning, the tea acts as a catalyst to restart the digestive fire. People can also drink it with a slice of ginger in it.

Consume Light Meals

Dr. Smita recommended consuming light, warm, and freshly consumed meals during the daytime. Mung chillas, or vegetable soup, can be a great breakfast option, as they keep the stomach calm. She further asked people to have foods that are easy to digest. Adding spices such as ginger, cumin, curry leaves, coriander, and hing not only makes the food delicious but also helps get rid of water retention.

Foods to Avoid

Fermented foods like idlis, dosas, curd, tomatoes, and tamarind dishes are advised to be avoided as they can cause acidity. Additionally, cold and raw foods, carbonated beverages, and fried or processed foods should also be avoided.

7-Day Intentional Eating Plan

A 7-day regimen of only eating when hungry, drinking herbal teas, and eating steamed vegetables can result in incredible digestion improvements and increased energy. It will allow the gut to heal and remove toxins. It’s important to note that this cleansing does not entail starving; it is about intelligently eating clean and warm.
