Breaking News: Monsoon Havoc Intensifies as Floods, Landslides and Water Surge Claim Lives Across India

Heavy monsoon rains continue to trigger widespread destruction across India, with floods, landslides, waterlogging, and rising river levels disrupting normal life in several states. Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Assam, Gujarat, and West Bengal remain among the worst-affected regions as authorities continue rescue and relief operations amid forecasts of more rainfall. In Maharashtra, a tragic incident unfolded at Hanuman Waterfall in Shahapur, Thane district, where five tourists were swept away after a sudden surge in water caused by intense rainfall. Rescue teams managed to save three people, while one person lost his life and another remains missing. Search operations are continuing as officials warn visitors to avoid waterfalls and overflowing rivers during the monsoon season. Assam continues to battle severe flooding, with nearly 650,000 people affected across multiple districts. Although water levels have started receding in some areas, damaged homes, submerged farmland, and disrupted transportation continue to impact thousands of families. In West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas, several villages remain inundated, forcing residents to cope with flooded homes and limited access to essential services. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has damaged roads in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, while Nashik in Maharashtra has witnessed submerged roads and disrupted connectivity, leaving several villages isolated. In Jammu and Kashmir, rising water levels in the Jhelum River and flood threats in Doda have kept authorities on high alert, with landslides also affecting transportation routes in hilly regions. Officials have urged people to avoid venturing into rivers, waterfalls, and flood-prone areas as unpredictable weather continues to increase the risk of flash floods and accidents. Emergency teams remain deployed across affected regions to assist residents and restore essential services.
