Political Showdown: Opposition Targets Government Over Student Crackdown, Bihar Firing Row Reaches Parliament

The political battle over alleged police action against protesting students has intensified, with the opposition launching a strong attack on the government and demanding accountability. Congress and INDIA alliance leaders staged protests inside the Parliament premises, accusing authorities of excessive force against students during demonstrations in Delhi and Bihar. Opposition leaders alleged that students were subjected to harsh action, including claims of pellet gun use in Delhi and firing during protests in Bihar’s Siwan. Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have questioned the government over what they describe as a pattern of suppression against student movements. Rahul Gandhi also wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking accountability over the alleged incidents. The issue gained further momentum after a viral video from Siwan allegedly showed SIT constable Abhishek Patel firing a rifle during protests. The constable has since been suspended, and an inquiry has been initiated into the incident. Opposition parties have used the development to demand answers from the government, while the BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of making misleading statements and creating unnecessary tension. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra rejected the opposition’s allegations, saying that claims of police firing were irresponsible and that such statements could create confusion and unrest. He questioned the manner in which the issue was being presented politically and called for a fact-based discussion. The controversy has now become a major flashpoint in Parliament, with opposition parties continuing to demand a debate on student-related issues and action against those responsible for alleged excesses. The government, meanwhile, maintains that law and order issues must be addressed through proper investigations and procedures. The confrontation between the ruling party and opposition is expected to continue during the Monsoon Session.
