Bengal Cabinet Expansion: 35 Ministers to Take Oath as BJP Plans Statewide Political Reset

West Bengal is witnessing a major political shift as a new cabinet expansion is set to take place in Kolkata, where 35 ministers are scheduled to be sworn in at 11 AM. The oath-taking ceremony will be administered by the Governor, marking the first major cabinet reshuffle under the current government. According to sources, the expansion aims to create a balanced representation across different regions of the state, including North Bengal, South Bengal, and the Kolkata metropolitan area. Special emphasis is reportedly being placed on North Bengal, which has been a politically significant region for the ruling party, contributing a large share of electoral strength in previous elections. Among the probable names in the ministerial list are Shankar Ghosh from Siliguri, Umesh Rai from Howrah North, Arjun Singh, Indranil Khan, Jaganath Chattopadhyay, Deepak Barman, Tapas Roy, Manoj Oraon, and Purnima Chakraborty. Several leaders from different constituencies, including those from tribal and border regions, are also expected to be inducted to broaden political outreach. Sources indicate that the cabinet may include experienced leaders who have previously served in ministerial roles, along with several new faces who have been active in state politics. The expansion is seen as a strategic attempt to strengthen governance outreach and improve administrative representation at the regional level. Political observers view the reshuffle as an effort to balance organizational strength with electoral strategy, especially in regions where political competition has been intense. The final list, however, will only be confirmed at the time of the oath ceremony. The event is expected to be a key moment in shaping the state’s political direction ahead of future electoral challenges.
