TikTok star and activist Shirley Raines of Beauty 2 the Streetz dies at 58

Shirley Raines, widely known as Ms. Shirley and the founder and CEO of the nonprofit Beauty 2 the Streetz, has died at the age of 58. Raines became popular on TikTok and other social media platforms for documenting her efforts to help unhoused communities in Los Angeles and Nevada. Her work earned her national recognition, including CNN’s 2021 Hero of the Year and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Social Media Personality in 2025.Raines was found dead on Tuesday night in her Henderson, Nevada home during a wellness check, according to reports. Her twin sister Sheila said she had been healthy and was not taking medication. The family is awaiting autopsy results, but no foul play is suspected. Beauty 2 the Streetz confirmed her passing in a heartfelt statement on TikTok and Instagram, highlighting her tireless advocacy and dedication to helping those in need.

The nonprofit praised her compassion, dedication, and the lasting impact she had on countless lives. “Her legacy will continue to live on through the work she started and the hearts she touched,” the organization said. Raines’ presence on social media made her a familiar face among the younger generation. Fans would often see her handing out items right from her car. She was known to be interacting with the community in a very positive way. Only two days before her death, she was recorded handing out essentials, which was a routine activity she was known for. Social media fans and fellow activists have been posting tributes to her memory, remembering her for her generosity, love, and selfless service.The sudden passing of Shirley Raines is a loss to the nonprofit sector and the world of social media.
