Dhaka: Bid to portray isolated acts as Hindu persecution

DHAKA: Days after New Delhi slammed Dhaka for “unremitting hostility” against minorities, Bangladesh on Sunday said there are “systematic attempts” to portray isolated incidents of criminal acts as systemic persecution of Hindus and “maliciously” used to propagate anti-Bangladesh sentiments in different parts of India. In a briefing on Dec 26, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also said over 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities, have been documented by independent sources and these incidents cannot be brushed aside as mere media exaggeration or dismissed as political violence.“Our attention has been drawn to the recent comments regarding the situation of minority communities in Bangladesh. The comments do not reflect the facts,” said Bangladesh foreign ministry spokesperson S M Mahbubul Alam. He said they observed a selective and unfair bias in certain quarters, “where isolated incidents are amplified, misrepresented and propagated to incite common Indians against Bangladesh…”.
