'Absolutely vile': Trump's faith advisor compares him to Jesus Christ, faces massive backlash online

White House faith advisor Paula White is currently facing massive scrutiny online due to her recent songs of praise for the US President. On Wednesday, Donald Trump hosted an Easter event at the White House with evangelical groups. During one of the segments of the private event, Pastor Paula White-Cain was invited to address the gathering where she ended up comparing the 79-year-old leader to Jesus Christ. As per White-Cain, both Jesus and Trump had been “betrayed and arrested and falsely accused.” “It’s a familiar pattern that our Lord and Saviour showed us,” she said.”Jesus taught us so many lessons through his death, burial and resurrection. He showed us great leadership through sacrifice,” she said while adding that similarly, Trump had paid the price like “no one” had, it almost cost him his life. “Sir, because of his resurrection, you rose up. Because he was victorious, you were victorious,” said White-Cain while adding “Sir I believe the Lord said to tell you this, because of his victory, you will be victorious in all you put your hand to.” While White-Cain’s speech may have received a standing ovation from the MAGA crowd at the White House, online it enraged followers of the religion and Christ, across the world. ‘When Paula White says no one has paid the price like you, that’s not theology, that’s flattery on steroids. Easter is about spiritual redemption, not political branding. If every leader who faced backlash started claiming a messianic arc, history would look like a Sunday school parody. Faith is sacred. Turning it into a campaign prop at a White House lunch isn’t divine. ” It’s theatrical,” wrote one user on X. “This is absolutely vile to anyone who believes the gospel,” claimed another. The statement also received flak from numerous priests, pastors and political strategists who called out White for comparing a political leader to the Lord. “Blasphemous,” Rich Raho, a Catholic theologian, posted on X. “It’s stunning to see a US Bishop standing right there on the stage while Paula White compares Trump to Jesus Christ.”Freaks, liars, charlatans, grifters, criminals – anything but Christians. All of them,” political strategist Jeff Timmer posted on X.The White House spiritual advisor is not new to controversy. Previously in March 2026, she urged followers to donate “the first tenth of your gross income” to support her ministry and its causes, including funding projects in Israel, facing trolling online. In February 2026, she urged attendees of her conference to give a “sacrificial seed” in support of the ministry of her friend Eddie James, asking everyone to donate $1,000. “If you say, ‘I don’t have it,’ give a $100. Bring up a sacrificial seed,” she said. White-Cain, a televangelist, was appointed as Trump’s special advisor to the Faith and Opportunity Initiative, a position created within the White House Office of Public Liaison in 2019. Her relationship with Trump goes back to 2002 when she became his spiritual counsellor. In 2017, she delivered the invocation at his inauguration, becoming the first female clergy member to do so.
