J&K detains 1,000 in sweep against terror support structure

.

SRINAGAR: Four days of unbroken police action stretched across Kashmir valley Tuesday, with more than 1,000 people rounded up so far in what officials called a “pre-emptive strike” aimed at dismantling terrorist support networks and preventing attempts to disrupt peace.J&K police said teams carried out surprise checks across districts to create what they described as a deterrent effect against elements allegedly seeking to unsettle public order.Officials said properties linked to J&K residents currently living in PoK and people facing UAPA charges were also searched. A senior officer said monitoring of several UAPA accused currently on bail revealed alleged violations of bail conditions. He said police are preparing applications to seek cancellation of those bail orders before competent courts.Another official said some accused had allegedly resumed activities harmful to public safety and security.LG Manoj Sinha reviewed the security situation Tuesday, directing police, intelligence units and security agencies to maintain constant vigil and ensure seamless coordination, according to a government spokesman. A separate directive followed the confiscation of an assault rifle from a locker used by Dr Adeel Majeed Rather at Govt Medical College in Anantnag. Rather served at the college as a senior resident until Oct 24, 2024, and was employed at a private hospital in UP’s Saharanpur when he was arrested on Nov 6 for his alleged role in putting up posters supporting Pakistan-backed banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.Authorities instructed faculty, paramedical staff and students at health institutes to identify and label personal lockers with names, designations and codes by Nov 14. Officials said unclaimed lockers would be removed during inspections.
