Bharatpur election results 2026: AITC’s Mustafijur Rahaman defeats BJP’s Anamika Ghosh by 30,753 votes

NEW DELHI: In West Bengal’s Bharatpur, AITC’s Mustafijur Rahaman received 90,870 votes, defeating IBJP’s Anamika Ghosh by 30,753 votes. BJP’s Anamika Ghosh received 60,117 votes. There were a total of 2,39,184 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Bharatpur Assembly constituency, of whom 1,24,672 were male, 1,14,508 female and 4 belonged to the third gender.West Bengal voted across 294 seats in two phases on April 23 and April 29, recording a combined turnout of nearly 93 per cent — the highest since Independence and one of the largest in Indian electoral history.

Notably, the surge was not limited to rural strongholds but saw a dramatic rise in urban centres, with women voters outpacing men to drive the record participation.Bharatpur is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed shifts in political control over recent elections, reflecting changing voter preferences. In the 2021 Assembly elections, Bharatpur had 243,603 registered electors, of whom 189,047 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Humayun Kabir, who secured 96,226 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Iman Kalyan Mukherjee finished second with 53,143 votes, trailing by a margin of 43,083 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 215,850, with 165,263 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 76.63 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Kamalesh Chatterjee (Gopal) won the seat with 59,789 votes. TMC candidate Khadem A. Dastegir (Khadu) came second with 48,772 votes, losing by a margin of 11,017 votes.The electoral outcomes highlight a political shift in Bharatpur, with the seat moving from Congress representation in 2016 to a TMC victory in 2021.
