At 97, Nagpur University alum to be conferred Doctor of Literature

NAGPUR: Nagpur University alumnus Vinayak Pande is all set to become India’s oldest recipient of a Doctor of Literature (DLitt) degree at 97 years, report Sarfaraz Ahmed & Vaibhav Ganjapure. He will be conferred with the degree at the university’s 113th convocation on January 9.Pande, who lives in Bengaluru, will not be able to receive the degree personally as doctors have advised him against travelling. NU cleared Pande’s DLitt in economics for his thesis titled ‘Global Economic Recession’, making him part of a rare global cohort of scholars honoured at such an advanced age. “I have always believed research has no retirement age. But, doctors jokingly told me, ‘if you want to stay alive, don’t travel’,” he told TOI.
