Ammonium nitrate, arms, 20 timers: Major terror module busted in Delhi-NCR; what cops found in Faridabad

NEW DELHI: In a major counter-terror operation near the national capital, the Jammu & Kashmir Police and Haryana Police jointly recovered 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate along with a large cache of arms, ammunition, and bomb-making equipment from an apartment in Faridabad. Two persons, including a doctor working at a private university, have been arrested so far, officials confirmed on Monday.Commissioner of Police Satender Kumar Gupta said the seizure was part of a coordinated investigation that had been underway for over two weeks. “It is an ongoing joint operation between Haryana police and J&K police. An accused, Dr Muzammil, was nabbed. 360 kg of inflammable material was recovered yesterday, which is possibly ammonium nitrate. It is not RDX… The operation is still underway,” he said.

300-Kg Explosives, Weapons, Timers: J&K Police Stop Deadly Terror Plot Targeting North India In Time

What was recovered

According to officials, around 360 kg of highly inflammable material, suspected to be ammonium nitrate, was found in the flat, along with arms, live ammunition, and several bomb-making components. “One assault rifle with three magazines and 83 live rounds, one pistol with eight live rounds, two empty cartridges, two additional magazines, eight large suitcases, four small suitcases, and a bucket containing approximately 360 kg of inflammable material have been recovered. It is suspected to be ammonium nitrate,” said CP Gupta. The police also recovered 20 timers with batteries, 24 remote controls, 5 kg of heavy metal, walkie-talkie sets, electric wiring, and other contraband materials. “It is not RDX… It is not an AK-47; it is an assault rifle. It is like an AK-47 but slightly smaller than it. But it is not AK-47,” Gupta clarified.Officials suspect that the seized materials were meant for large-scale terror strikes in the Delhi-NCR region.Sources said an assault rifle linked to Dr Muzammil was found in a Swift Dzire car owned by a woman doctor employed at the same university. “We have not yet taken any action against her. It’s possible that the accused may have borrowed her vehicle without her knowledge. Since the weapon was recovered from her car, her role remains under investigation,” a senior official told TOI.Linked arrests in Faridabad and SaharanpurThe breakthrough followed the arrest of Dr Adil Ahmad Rather, a doctor from Pulwama, who was detained earlier by the J&K Police in Saharanpur. His interrogation led investigators to Dr Muzammil, an assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad. “Two accused persons have been booked until now, including Dr Muzsammil from Faridabad, and another accused, Aadil Rather, has been arrested from J&K’s Saharanpur,” CP Gupta said.Police sources added that Rather’s confession was instrumental in locating the explosives and connecting the suspects. An AK-47 rifle was earlier recovered from Rather’s locker at the Government Medical College, Srinagar.Wider crackdown in J&KThe Faridabad operation coincides with a larger crackdown on terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the weekend, Kulgam Police launched a series of raids targeting overground workers, financial handlers, and relatives of active militants. Several suspects were detained, and digital evidence was seized.Police said these actions are part of their “Zero-Tolerance Policy” against terrorism. “Operations against the terror support network will continue to ensure its complete dismantling,” Kulgam Police said in a statement. Meanwhile, Union minister Giriraj Singh courted controversy with his remarks following the arrests. Speaking to ANI, he said, “The Modi government and the State government caught it. However, this was even dangerous than the Mumbai blasts. Baba Bageshwar’s Yatra has been going on, and people were with him in large numbers. If they were attacked, what would have happened? But, whenever they are caught, it is always a person from one community… a Muslim doctor has been arrested.”He further targeted Opposition leaders for not commenting on the case. “Be it Rahul Gandhi, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav or Asaduddin Owaisi, they would not issue a statement on this. This is condemnable, and people should worry about it. It is a shocking incident for the nation,” Singh said.Officials said investigations are continuing to determine the source and intended use of the seized materials. Both state police forces are coordinating with central agencies to uncover possible links to a larger terror network. Go to Source
