What happened to the ‘Jana Nayagan’ release? Thalapathy Vijay’s film faces delays and uncertainty

Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ faces an indefinite postponement from its planned Pongal release. Censor issues, including strong political dialogues and religious sentiment concerns, along with technical glitches and Revising Committee setbacks, have led to significant delays and mounting losses for distributors and exhibitors. The makers remain silent, leaving fans in uncertainty about the film’s eventual release.

Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film ‘Jana Nayagan’ was announced as his final outing and was initially planned for a grand Pongal release on January 9. All signs pointed to it being a massive event, especially with Vijay preparing for his political debut around the same time. However, that is no longer the case. The film will not release as expected, and uncertainty looms large over its fate. What was meant to be a celebratory moment has now turned into a prolonged wait.

Censor issues and political dialogues delay ‘Jana Nayagan’ release

Censorship-related issues are believed to be at the heart of the delay. The film reportedly contains strong political dialogues and intense sequences, prompting hesitation from certifying authorities. The censor board suggested several cuts and edits to grant a U/A 16+ certificate. While the producers implemented the recommended changes, delays continued due to further revision requirements. As a result, the filmmakers remain in the dark, with no clear or official communication regarding the final cuts.

Multiple revisions and technical glitches add to trouble

Despite making multiple revisions, the team continued to face hurdles. They were instructed to upload the latest version of the film and the revised cut list on the censor board’s portal, but reports suggest the link was not functioning. Even after repeated attempts and follow-ups via email, no concrete resolution was reached, raising concerns within the team. Meanwhile, a complaint alleging that certain scenes hurt religious sentiments added another layer of complexity to the already delayed process.

Revising Committee setbacks push film further back

With no breakthrough, the makers approached the court to expedite certification. The court ruled in favour of the film and directed that the certificate be issued. However, the matter escalated when the censor board filed an appeal.Eventually, the team withdrew the case and opted to approach the Revising Committee. But further setbacks followed, as a scheduled screening was cancelled due to a health issue involving one of the committee members, pushing the process into further uncertainty.

Losses mount as silence from makers raises concerns

With repeated delays, the film’s release has now been indefinitely postponed. A major OTT deal is reportedly at risk of falling through, while distributors and exhibitors who invested heavily in promotions are facing losses. What has added to the concern is the silence from Vijay and the makers, with no official statement issued so far. As multiple issues continue to plague the film, fans are left wondering when ‘Jana Nayagan’ will finally hit theatres — and whether it can recover from this prolonged turmoil. Go to Source
