Alpha teaser: Fans spot similarities with La Femme Nikita

Alia Bhatt, Bobby Deol's Alpha teaser faces plagiarism allegations; fans spot similarities with La Femme Nikita and American Sniper

The teaser of Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, was unveiled on Wednesday and quickly became a talking point on social media. While many fans praised the action-packed glimpse into YRF’s first female-led spy thriller, others accused the makers of borrowing scenes and ideas from international films, including the French classic La Femme Nikita and American Sniper. The teaser introduces a key moment involving Bobby Deol’s character and Alia Bhatt’s spy-in-training. In the scene, Bobby takes his daughter, whom he has trained from a young age to become a spy, to an upscale restaurant on her 18th birthday. However, instead of celebrating, he assigns her first mission — carrying out a kill.Initially disappointed because she expected a birthday celebration, Alia’s character eventually accepts the task and completes the mission.Soon after the teaser’s release, social media users began comparing the sequence to a scene from La Femme Nikita, directed by Luc Besson. In the French action thriller, Tcheky Karyo’s character Bob takes Anne Parillaud’s Nikita, a trained assassin, to a fancy restaurant. What appears to be a special outing soon turns into an assignment when he hands her a gun and orders her to kill three people.Several users claimed the similarities between the two scenes were difficult to ignore. One social media user shared a clip from the French film and wrote, “The opening scene is loosely copied from the scene in Luc Besson’s action classic La Femme Nikita.”Another commented, “The opening scene is copied 90% from the scene in Luc Besson’s action classic La Femme Nikita. The plot is also similar.”

Wolf-sheep analogy also draws comparisons

Apart from the restaurant sequence, some viewers pointed out that a wolf-and-sheep analogy featured in the teaser resembles a well-known monologue from American Sniper. The comparison has sparked debate online, with some fans accusing the makers of recycling ideas from popular international films, while others argued that similarities do not necessarily amount to plagiarism and should be viewed in the context of the film’s overall narrative.
