Venkat Prabhu completes 20 years in cinema; shares emotional note: 'I promise to bring you good stories'

Twenty years in cinema is a milestone, especially in an industry where every film has its own challenge. Venkat Prabhu has experienced many genres, unexpected successes and learnings. From carving his niche as an actor to developing into one of Tamil cinema’s sought-after filmmakers, he has carved a unique identity with his narratives. As he completes two decades in the film industry, Venkat Prabhu has looked back at his journey and shared a heartfelt note with fans, colleagues and everyone who supported him along the way.

Venkat Prabhu’s 20-year cinema journey begins with ‘Chennai 600028’

Looking back at where it all began, Venkat Prabhu recalled the opportunity that changed his career and credited the people who believed in him during his early days. Sharing an emotional note on social media, he wrote, “Twenty years ago, on this very day, my journey as a director began with Chennai 600028. It was possible only because of the blessings of the much-loved and respected SPB sir and the unwavering belief that brother Charan had in me. That one opportunity changed my life forever.” He also said that entering his 20th year in cinema filled him with unforgettable memories and excitement about the future. The filmmaker stressed that he always wanted every project to feel different rather than repeat the same formula.

Venkat Prabhu thanks fans for supporting his experimental films

Venkat Prabhu also opened up about how audiences have played a major role in helping him take creative risks. He explained that some of his films received immediate appreciation, while others found recognition only after several years. “Some attempts received love and appreciation immediately. Some films were appreciated over time, while some films taught me important lessons,” he said. He further added, “If I have had the courage to continue trying new things, it is because of the immense love and trust you have shown me all these years.” The director thanked audiences for celebrating his successes and standing with him during difficult phases. He also expressed gratitude to producers, actors, technicians, media friends and everyone who became part of his cinematic journey.

Venkat Prabhu promises more new stories after 20 years in cinema

Calling himself a passionate cinema fan even today, he said every new film continues to teach him something. “Even after twenty years, I still feel like an ardent fan of cinema. Every film continues to teach me something new. The nervousness and excitement I feel before the first day of shooting for every film have not changed,” he wrote. He also promised to continue creating stories that entertain, surprise and connect with audiences. Venkat Prabhu concluded his note with a message of gratitude and optimism, saying, “With the same passion I had twenty years ago, I promise to bring you good stories. Let us continue this journey together for many more years.”

Venkat Prabhu’s filmography from ‘Chennai 600028’ to ‘GOAT’

Venkat Prabhu began his directorial journey with ‘Chennai 600028’ in 2007, a film that went on to become an important title in Tamil cinema. He followed it with films such as ‘Saroja,’ ‘Goa,’ ‘Mankatha,’ ‘Chennai 600028 II’ and ‘Maanaadu.’ His ability to move between genres became one of the defining features of his career. He later directed Vijay in ‘The Greatest of All Time’ (‘GOAT’) which added another big project to his filmography. Venkat Prabhu’s journey in 20 years, from the debut revolving around a friendship story based on cricket to large-scale commercial entertainers and high-concept films, is a testimony to his constant effort to explore new ideas. And if his latest note is any indication, the filmmaker looks to keep that curiosity alive for years to come. Go to Source
