Soon after their birth, the 35-year-old singer shared a lengthy video on her account, revealing that her twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. Jesy Nelson reveals twins are healthy and happy after the latest surgical procedure

Jesy Nelson recently took to her Instagram to share the news that her twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, had successfully come out of surgery. She shared that she was terrified of the procedure, as it had to remove their feeding tubes. “I got their face back; it feels like a dream,” she posted in her stories section. Along with this, she also shared rare photos of her twins as they lay cuddled in their respective beds.In another photo, she shared a glimpse of her children with the feeding tubes attached and wrote, “Today is the last day of my baby girls having their NG tubes on their faces. As terrified as I am about them having their operation tomorrow, I cannot wait to finally see their faces again and see their little dimples that are always hidden under these plasters.” I’ve honestly forgotten what it feels like to cuddle them and not worry about pulling their tube out of their nose or plasters on their face—it really is the littlest things we take for granted as parents.”Nelson had also shared videos and photos of the twins before they had to go for their surgery. In one of the videos, she mentioned, “Today is the big day. We’re taking these plasters off, aren’t we? No more tuby for you in your face. They’re going down soon. The bravest girls in all of the world.”

What is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1?

According to reports shared by Cleveland Clinic, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 is “a genetic condition that causes worsening muscle weakness. There are five subtypes, which range in severity and age of onset. There’s no cure for SMA, but certain therapies and medications can help manage symptoms.” The report further cited that “About 60% of SMA cases are type 1—also called Werdnig-Hoffman disease. Symptoms arise within the first six months of life and include limited head control and decreased muscle tone (hypotonia).”Since their diagnosis, the singer has continuously shared updates about their health and well-being on their social media account.
