‘Game of Thrones’ movie CONFIRMED: Plot, cast, release date

'Game of Thrones' movie CONFIRMED: Plot, cast, release date and everything you need to know about 'Aegon's Conquest'

After taking over the small screen, the world of Westeros is all set to conquer the big screen with ‘Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest’. As per the latest reports, Aegon’s Conquest will be developed as a theatrical event movie and will be the first feature film set in the Game of Thrones universe. The announcement was made during the Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2027 slate presentation, where the studio outlined its plans for major theatrical releases beyond 2027. “The slate will continue to leverage iconic intellectual property, including the theatrical event film ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ from the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe, the next instalment of ‘The Matrix’, ‘The Batman: Part 2’, and a live-action ‘Jetsons’ film starring Jim Carrey.”While the announcement confirms the project’s theatrical ambitions, many details about the film remain under wraps.

What is ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ about?

Set roughly 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, Aegon’s Conquest would explore one of the most significant chapters in Westerosi history: the Targaryen invasion and unification of the seven kingdoms. The story follows Aegon I Targaryen and his sisters, Visenya and Rhaenys, as they embark on their campaign to conquer Westeros. The Targaryens ride their legendary dragons Balerion the Black Dread, Vhagar and Meraxes into battle and untimately bring six of the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule, thus setting up the Iron Throne and the Targaryen dynasty that would rule Westeros for generations. The events of the conquest have been repeatedly referenced in both ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘The Kinght of the Seven Kingdoms’. However, the story has never made it to a live-action adaptation.

Cast and production details

Despite the confirmation, the project appears to be in the early stages of development, with no actors announced for the roles of Aegon, Visenya or Rhaenys.Fans, however, have gone ahead and fan-casted actors like Henry Cavil and Harry Goodwins as Aegon Targaryen. They have also fan-cast several actresses like Anya Taylor Joy, Daisy Edgar, Vanessa Kirby and Rebecca Ferguson as perfect to play the roles of Visenya and Rhaenys. There is also confirmation about the director taking over the reins of the film adaptation. Further details about the production start date or theatrical release date are likely to emerge as Warner Bros. Discovery moves forward with the film, however, reports indicate that the makers could be targeting a theatrical premiere in 2028 at the earliest. While the movie has been announced, it comes at a time when the corporate future of the production and its ownership structure remains undetermined. If the film moves forward as planned, ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ could give fans of the franchise their first cinematic look at the birth of the Targaryen dynasty and the largest dragon spectacle yet seen in the Game of Thrones universe.
