Sonakshi recalls Shatrughan Sinha’s ‘reverse nepotism’ treatment to her

Sonakshi Sinha recalls Shatrughan Sinha's 'reverse nepotism' treatment to her when she started her career: 'You have to prove yourself'

After exploring action entertainers, thrillers, and streaming dramas over a career spanning more than 15 years, Sonakshi Sinha is now stepping into the courtroom drama genre with her upcoming film System. Ahead of the film’s release, the actor spoke about why she felt deeply connected to her character and how one particular “reverse nepotism” moment in the story reminded her of her own life.Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, System follows a young public prosecutor, played by Sonakshi, who joins forces with a court stenographer portrayed by Jyotika to take on a murder case involving a powerful businessman. Talking about the film’s themes, Sonakshi said in an interview with Hindustan Times, “The film addressed so many issues that we may not even think of. These are derived from real people, real incidents, and things happening around us. At a lot of points, the film makes you question things. Any film that gets you started thinking about stuff is a good film.”The actress plays Neha Rajvansh, a woman from a reputed legal family who is trying to carve out her own identity. Sonakshi explained that what drew her to the role was not the profession but the emotional depth of the character. “The relatability doesn’t come from the profession she is in, but from the woman she is. She is very flawed, layered, and someone who makes her own mistakes and has her own demons. All these things are very relatable to me, and surely to a lot of other women as well, those who are trying to prove themselves and don’t get things handed to them,” she shared. In the film, Neha’s father, played by Ashutosh Gowariker, is a celebrated defence lawyer who insists that his daughter first establish herself independently as a prosecutor before joining the family practice. This leads to a humorous line in the movie where Neha asks, “What kind of reverse nepotism is this?”Sonakshi admitted that the situation strongly echoed her own experiences growing up as the daughter of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha. “Honestly, that’s been the case with me. My father has always told me, ‘You have to prove yourself’. Because he was like that. It doesn’t matter who you are; you have to prove yourself to get ahead in life, and that’s how you get what you deserve. So that was also something that was very relatable,” Sonakshi recalled. The actress made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in ‘Dabangg’ in 2010 and later starred in commercial hits like ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Son of Sardaar’, and ‘Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’. In recent years, she has earned praise for her performances in streaming projects such as Dahaad and Heeramandi.’System’ is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on May 22. Go to Source
