Smita Patil wished to go as a 'suhagan'; makeup artist recalls funeral: 'Amitabh Bachchan and others were...'

TW: This article contains sensitive content and may be distressing for some readers.Smita Patil is remembered not just for her powerful performances in films like ‘Mirch Masala’, ‘Manthan’, ‘Ardh Satya’, ‘Arth’ and ‘Mandi’, but also for being a down-to-earth and humble personality. Her life, however, ended tragically at the age of 31, just weeks after giving birth to her son, Prateik. While fans cherish her films, those close to her remember her personal wishes and gentle nature.

Makeup artist recalls Smita Patil’s final wish

Deepak Sawant, a makeup artist who has worked with Bollywood stars including Amitabh Bachchan, recently shared memories of working with Smita Patil. On the YouTube channel Reel Meets Real with Pooja Samant, he spoke about her last day and the wish she often expressed.Deepak shared, “Smita Patil used to say mujhe suhagan banake leke jana (I should die a married woman.) I used to scold her to not say things like this. She used to say this even to her mother who would also scold her.”

Emotional moment doing her last makeup

Deepak recalled how emotional her last makeup was. “After she passed away, her sister was coming from Chicago and she took 2-3 days to come. During this time, her body was kept on ice and it had swollen,” he said. He further revealed, “Her mother gave me a make-up kit and Amitabh Bachchan and other people were sitting there. She gave me the make-up kit in front of them and told me that it was her wish to go as a suhagan. I started crying and I did her make up while I was tearing up. I did her last make-up and I made her look very beautiful on her last day.”

About Smita Patil and Raj Babbar

Smita Patil was married to actor Raj Babbar. At the time, Raj was already married to Nadira. The couple got married and welcomed their son, Prateik, into the world. Tragically, Smita passed away due to complications during childbirth. She gave birth on November 28, 1986, and passed away on December 13, 1986. Her sudden demise left a huge gap in both the film industry and the lives of those close to her.

When Raj Babbar fondly remembered Smita Patil’s legacy

On her 35th death anniversary, back in 2021, Raj Babbar shared an old photograph of Smita Patil on Instagram. He wrote, “Smita was a noble soul – something which reflected so vividly in her craft. She had a captivating presence but what stood out was her sensitive self. In the short span she had, she touched so many lives and always left an indelible impression. Fondly remembering her today.” Go to Source
