Paper Leak Row: PM Modi Unveils Four-Point Action Plan on Paper Leak, Promises Tough Law and Fast-Track Courts

Amid the ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a comprehensive action plan to tackle the paper leak controversy. In a late-night video message, he described paper leaks as a serious issue causing immense hardship to students and their families. The Prime Minister said the government has prepared a draft of a stringent anti-paper leak law, which will be approved by the Cabinet and introduced during the current Monsoon Session of Parliament. The proposed legislation includes provisions for stricter punishment and special fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials. Modi said the government had already ensured that 22 lakh students did not lose an academic year by conducting fresh examinations and declaring results promptly. He also noted that those accused in the paper leak cases have been arrested and remain in jail. Alongside legislative reforms, the government has initiated administrative changes by replacing the Higher Education Secretary and establishing a special fast-track court in Delhi to hear paper leak cases. The Centre says its four-pronged strategy focuses on accountability, judicial action, administrative reforms, and stronger legal provisions to prevent future leaks.
