Revathy, Padmapriya quit AMMA: Actors say years of seeking change were met with ‘silence’

Mollywood actors Revathy Asha Kelunni and Padmapriya Janakiraman have stepped down from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). The two actors announced their resignation through a joint statement shared on Instagram on Monday. The actors said they had remained hopeful that the organisation would introduce meaningful reforms. However, after waiting for change, they decided to end their primary membership.

Joint statement explains the decision

In their statement, Revathy and Padmapriya said they had consistently sought a professional environment built on fairness, safety and accountability.Their statement read, “Today, we are resigning from our primary membership of A.M.M.A. Not in anger, not in haste. Between us we have given decades to this industry, and we care where it goes next. For years the ask was simple: safety, dignity, accountability and equal treatment. What we met instead was silence, and the slow realisation that this institution, as it stands, is not ready to change.”They further wrote, “Malayalam cinema will always be ours to love and to work for. That never depended on a membership. Swipe through for our full statement. See you at the cinemas, Revathy and Padmapriya #AMMA #MalayalamCinema #WomenInCinema #Mollywood #kerala.”In their swipe right pics, the last one reads, “Institutions endure not because people stay, but because they stay worthy of trust. We leave this chapter with clarity and hope.”

Social media users extend support

The announcement quickly gained attention on social media. One user wrote, “@revathyasha self respect over anything !! Our support and love for you and the tribe only goes up!! Kudos”Another commented, “Great decision ever”. A third user added, “More power to u ashama and Respect that … Good decision.”

AMMA continues to face organisational turmoil

The resignations come during a period of major developments within AMMA. The organisation recently witnessed the resignation of its 17-member executive committee, led by actor Shwetha Menon. The decision followed a no-confidence motion and extensive discussions held during the association’s annual general body meeting in Kochi.Following the resignation of the executive committee, AMMA’s general body appointed an ad-hoc committee to oversee the organisation’s affairs. The interim panel is headed by Ramesh Pisharody. Go to Source
