‘Sarvam Maya’ director is ‘mind blown’ by Jayasurya’s ‘Kathanar’ trailer: ‘It’s unlike anything Malayalam cinema has ever seen’

Filmmaker Akhil Sathyan was astounded by the trailer for Jayasurya’s ‘Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer,’ calling it unprecedented for Malayalam cinema. He lauded the team for pushing boundaries. Directed by Rojin Thomas, the film features Jayasurya as a legendary priest with supernatural powers. Anushka Shetty also stars in this ambitious project, with the trailer expected soon.

Akhil Sathyan was spellbound watching the trailer of Jayasurya’s ‘Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer’. He couldn’t hold back the excitement of what he had witnessed. In a post shared on his social media handle, Akhil Sathyan said, “Happened to watch the trailer of #Kathanar and it’s unlike anything Malayalam cinema has ever seen. Absolutely mind-blowing!”The ‘Sarvam Maya’ director was all praise for the crew, including director Rojin Thomas and cinematographer Neil D’Cunha. “You all have pushed Malayalam cinema to heights we never imagined!” he added.

Directed by Rojin Thomas, ‘Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer’ features Jayasurya in the role of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a legendary priest from Kerala, who was said to possess supernatural powers. The makers wrapped up the shoot in 2024 and have been working on the post-production ever since. The team also unveiled a glimpse of the movie two years ago. Akhil Sathyan’s post hints that the makers are planning to launch the ‘Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer’ trailer soon. Actress Anushka Shetty has also been roped in to play a crucial role in the film. “We have poured every bit of our passion, dedication, and sincerity into this film for the past three years. This journey has been about overcoming challenges and pushing boundaries, and I can say with absolute confidence that we are bringing something truly special to you. Kathanar is not just a film—it’s the result of relentless hard work, belief in a dream, and the power of a team united by love of filmmaking,” Rojin Thomas said, while wrapping up the shoot in October 2024. The filmmaker has helmed award-winning films such as ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’ and ‘Home’ previously.Meanwhile, Akhil Sathyan, the son of veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad, is currently basking in the success of his latest release ‘Sarvam Maya’. The film featured Nivin Pauly in the lead role. The film minted over Rs 125 crore at the worldwide box office collection, as confirmed by the makers, and continues to run successfully in the theatres, despite big Pongal releases.
