Daisy on Kannada film: ‘Fruit salad made on navel..’

Daisy Shah opens up on the Kannada film industry’s unusual focus on navel: ‘'Either fruit salad was made on heroine's navel or...'

Actress Daisy Shah highlighted a strange trend in Kannada films, where heroines’ navels are often featured in close-ups with fruit salad, ice, or water. This sparked speculation about actor-director V Ravichandran. Earlier, Malavika Mohanan also noted South Indian cinema’s unusual fixation on navels and body zooms on social media.

Actress Daisy Shah, who is known for her work in the Kannada film industry, recently spoke out about a peculiar trend she observed: an unusual focus on female actors’ navels. In a recent interview, Shah recalled her experiences and observations from a Kannada film she worked on, noting how many songs featured close-up shots of the heroine’s navel, often with fruit salad, vegetables, ice, or water being poured on it. Daisy Shah recalls on-set experience and observations

In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Daisy reflected on her time filming a Kannada movie. The actress said that when she was doing that film, after the shoot, during her off days, she was watching TV and noticed that in all the Kannada songs she saw, there was a particular actor where, in all his songs, either a fruit salad or a vegetable salad was being made on the heroine’s navel with close-up shots, or sometimes ice or water was being poured on the navel.

Daisy Shah on speculation surrounding actor-director V Ravichandran

While Daisy didn’t specifically identify anyone, the video quickly sparked speculation among users on X (previously Twitter) that she was alluding to actor-director V Ravichandran, recognized for incorporating these kinds of scenes in his movies.

Social media reacts with humor to Daisy Shah’s observations

In response to Daisy’s video, one user jokingly referred to Ravichandran as “Our very own Chief Navel Officer … Commonu Darling Aiyyo Aiyyo.” Another remarked with a laughing emoji, “This has to be Ravichandran.”

Malavika Mohanan on South Indian cinema’s navel obsession

A few months ago, Malavika Mohanan addressed the South Indian film industry’s obsession with navels. Speaking in an interview with Hauterrfly, the actress mentioned that she used to be very confused earlier, too, because she had grown up in Mumbai. She described it as a completely new phenomenon that navels are obsessed over so much. She also noted that on social media, pictures of actresses often zoom into their bodies, emphasizing that navel obsession is a very real thing.
