Anurag SLAMS theatres for giving Obsession better show timings

Anurag Kashyap SLAMS theatres for giving Hollywood's ‘Obsession’ better show timings than ‘Bandar’ and ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’

Director Anurag Kashyap has slammed theatres for giving Hollywood film ‘Obsession’ better show timings over Indian films like ‘Bandar’ and ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’. Taking to Instagram, he questioned how Indian cinema will grow without proper screen support. ‘Obsession’ has earned over Rs 60 crores in India while ‘Bandar’ collected Rs 4 crores.

The Indian box office is currently witnessing a fierce battle for screens, with as many as 14 films competing for audience attention at the same time. The latest arrivals include Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, ‘Bharat Bhaagya Viddhaata’, ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’, ‘Heer Sara’, ‘Disclosure Day’, ‘Governor’, and ‘Backrooms’, while last week’s releases ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, ‘Bandar’, and ‘Masters of the Universe’ continue to hold their ground at the theatres.

Anurag Kashyap slams theatres for prioritising ‘Obsession’ over Indian films

Anurag Kashyap, who has been receiving widespread praise for his film ‘Bandar’, is far from pleased with the current state of affairs at the box office. The director took to his Instagram stories to voice his frustration, pointing out how ‘Obsession’, the hugely successful Hollywood film, continues to get the best show timings at theatres while homegrown films are left fighting for scraps. Kashyap, who appears to be in Bengaluru at the moment, made his displeasure very clear through his post.

He wrote, “I totally understand that everyone wants to see OBSESSION, but it can still run longer with lesser shows. If we don’t prioritise our own films with better showcasing then o don’t understand how will we grow. Last week it was with BANDAR, this week with MAIN VAPIS AUNGA, SING GHEETAM and GOVERNER. We have one morning show of MVA and may be another in some cinemas and same with GOVERNER and no show of SING GHEETAM in Bengaluru. While OBSEASION IS IN 6-7 shows.”

All about ‘Bandar’ and ‘Obsession’

‘Bandar’ has collected around Rs 4 crores in its first week, with the film telling the story of a struggling actor-musician who finds himself accused of rape by a woman, even as he maintains that their encounters were entirely consensual. ‘Obsession’, on the other hand, is a horror film centred around a boy whose wish for his crush to love him unconditionally comes true in the most terrifying way imaginable. The Hollywood film has been on an impressive run at the Indian box office, having already raked in over Rs 60 crores in the country alone. Go to Source
