Germany jails Chinese spy: Berlin MP’s ex-aide, she shared military details and supplies to Israel

A former aide to German far right politician Maximilian Krah has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for spying on behalf of China.

A court in Dresden on Tuesday sentenced Jian Guo, a former aide to German far right politician Maximilian Krah in the European parliament, to four years and nine months in prison after finding him guilty of spying for China, reported AFP.

Judges concluded that Guo, a German citizen, had acted as an agent for a Chinese intelligence service during his time working as a Brussels based staffer for Krah, who is a member of the Alternative for Germany party.

Another individual involved, identified only as Yaqi X, received a suspended sentence of one year and nine months.

Prosecutors had pushed for a sentence of seven and a half years for Guo. They argued that he had been cooperating with Chinese intelligence since 2002 and had used his post in Krah’s office between 2019 and 2024 to collect information on European politics and on the AfD.

Guo was also accused of serving as a handler for Yaqi X, a Chinese national. At the opening of the trial, Yaqi X admitted that she had given Guo information about cargo and flight schedules while working for a company supplying logistics services at Leipzig airport.

According to prosecutors, the material passed on included details of military aircraft, troop movements and drones, among them those deployed to Israel.

Krah, who now sits in the German parliament, told the court earlier this month that he had no knowledge of the accusations against Guo. He said he had hired him because of his language skills and background in managing an import export business.

Krah is himself under separate investigation on allegations of money laundering and accepting bribes from Chinese sources during his time as a member of the European parliament.
