Desperate Man United could go for a midfielder who was turned down by Erik ten Hag

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Manchester United could be forced to approach a Premier League midfielder, who was once rejected by Erik ten Hag.

A midfielder who was once rejected by Manchester United under former coach Erik ten Hag could join the Old Trafford club under Ruben Amorim as the Red Devils look to complete some crucial signings before the transfer window shuts on 1 September. Despite being extremely busy by acquiring Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Diego Leon, United are far from done.

The midfield is an area where Man United are desperately looking to add more options. They tried very hard to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton. While Baleba is willing to sign for them, Brighton’s asking for a fee in excess of £100 million has stalled the move.

Man Utd could try to sign Amadou Onana?

United are now forced to look elsewhere. As per European media reports, one option can be Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana, who was close to joining the English Premier League giants once. As per Sacha Tavolieri, United wanted to sign Amadou Onana when Erik ten Hag was the manager, but the Dutch tactician blocked the move. They went on to sign Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina.

However, United now have a chance to bring Onana back to Old Trafford. He has a contract with Villa till 2029 and it can prove to be a stumbling block, but United are in need of a solid defensive midfielder who can help them control the games, and free up Bruno Fernandes to link up with the attacking players.

GiveMeSport also reports that Onana, who is 24, is on the target list of Saudi club Al-Ahli as well.

It’s also important to note that United have so far not made any official move for Onana, but after a narrow defeat to Arsenal in the opening match of the new EPL season, manager Amorim hinted he could be forced to push Mason Mount into a much deeper role if they don’t sign new players.

“I’m really happy with our [midfield] players, they are working really well,” Amorim said. “We have different players for that position, so we are prepared to win any game with our players. Maybe Mason Mount is a player that can play in that position if we want something different, but then we are going to find out during the season.”

United may also sign a new goalkeeper, as Andre Onana was not a part of the squad that faced Arsenal.
