‘Only thing keeping me in Canada is the amount…’: Redditor says getting residency looks remote, decent job not enough

'Only thing keeping me in Canada is the amount...': Redditor says getting residency looks remote, decent job not enough

Redditor says a decent job in Canada is not enough.

An Indian Redditor who claimed to have been working in one of the Big 4 companies in Canada after graduating from a university there said the possibility of permanent residency in Canada looks grim. A decent job is not enough to live comfortably as the costs are really high. “The only thing keeping me in Canada is the amount my parents spent on my university fees, they didn’t take any debt but it was a big amount, and I feel if I come back now it would be a waste. But at the same time, even though Canada has a great quality of life, clean environment, I don’t see a future here and feel much more at peace back home,” the Redditor said.Getting Canada PR for Indians has become difficult in the last few years. IRCC data shows that Canada gave PRs to 49,115 Indians in the first five months of 2025. The number in 2026 is 36,910. The competition has increased, and the general cut-off scores for the Comprehensive Ranking System in the Express Entry system now hover above 500 to 530 points instead of 450 like earlier. The Redditor’s post elicited a mixed response, with a majority of the commentators advising the Redditor to give Canada more time as one year of working experience in Canada is too little. “If I were you, I would stay there, as 1 year isn’t significant experience. Gather as much experience you can and if possible try to stay there as finding job in India would be way more difficult,” one wrote.”Let’s say that you moved to a big city in India, then only if you can manage a low trust society with horrible traffic, civic sense. If it is your hometown small place then you might find the peace,” another wrote.”Canada is only expensive if you live in an expensive city. Many immigrants go to Canada and they have no idea how huge it is. They live in a bubble in expensive cities like Vancouver and Toronto and they don’t realize that there are thousands of affordable communities if one looks. Don’t move back to India. Move to a less expensive city! Ask other NRI or other Canadians about affordable and safe cities,” another weighed in.
