In a shocking case of medical negligence in Uttarakhand, a pregnant woman was allegedly forced to give birth on the hospital floor after being denied admission by hospital staff.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night at the hospital in Haridwar, where the woman, from a poor family, arrived around 9:30 pm. According to her family, the on-duty doctor refused to admit or treat her, stating that delivery would not be conducted there.

Left writhing in pain, the woman ultimately delivered her baby at 1:30 am on the floor of the emergency room, without any medical assistance.

A viral video of the incident shows the woman crying in pain, lying on the ground, assisted only by an elderly relative—while no hospital staff were present.

Speaking to reporters, a family member of the woman alleged that the she was not even allowed to lie on a bed. The relative also recounted a shocking comment allegedly made by a nurse after the delivery.

She claimed one of the two nurses standing there sarcastically asked the woman, “Mazaa aaya? Aur bacha paida karegi?” [Did you enjoy it? Do you want to deliver more kids?], India Today reported.

The relative added, “People come here in sorrow, not joy. If something had happened to the baby, who would take responsibility?”

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Dr. RK Singh confirmed a preliminary report had been taken, and the authenticity of the video is being verified. He added that if negligence is confirmed, strict action will follow.

The contractual doctor on night duty, Dr. Sonali, has already been terminated, and two nurses have received show-cause notices. Further investigation is underway to determine why emergency care was denied.
