Following the release of The Ba**ds Of Bollywood, former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede’s wife Kranti Redkar Wankhede praised his work against drug abuse even as he contests his portrayal in the new series. In an Instagram post, Kranti Redkar Wankhede shared a video of Sameer Wankhede addressing an anti-drugs awareness programme.

“Drug problem is deep, it’s not something to be made fun of or laughed at. Hope people realise the seriousness of this problem before it’s too late. Keep up the good work @swankhede.irs, your contribution to the society is profound. And we are all very proud of you,” she wrote.

She added that instead of holidays or vacations, Sameer Wankhede spends weekends “conducting antidrugs awareness lectures and programs… talking to the youth, shaping their young minds,” before concluding with the hashtag #nashamuktbharatcampaign.

Sameer Wankhede Moves Court Over Portrayal

Sameer Wankhede has filed a plea in the Delhi High Court, objecting to what he described as a misrepresentation of his image in the series. According to him, a character in the first episode is “heavily inspired” by his time as an NCB officer and wrongly shown as targeting Bollywood celebrities.

In his complaint, Sameer Wankhede has named actor Shah Rukh Khan and his company Red Chillies Entertainment, alleging that the series was “deliberately conceptualised and executed with the intent to malign his reputation.” He has sought damages of ₹2 crore.

The controversy recalls the 2021 Cordelia cruise ship raid when Sameer Wankhede, then with the NCB, arrested Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan. Aryan Khan spent 25 days in jail before being granted bail and was later dropped from the NCB charge sheet due to lack of evidence.

In 2023, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR against Sameer Wankhede and four others, alleging they demanded a ₹25 crore bribe to clear Aryan Khan’s name.
