A 200-foot wall of Jaipur’s historic Amer Fort collapsed on Saturday amid heavy rainfall. The incident created panic among visitors and staff present at the fort.

A video shared by news agency PTI showed a large section of the centuries-old wall crumbling under relentless rainfall, sending torrents of water and debris cascading down the historic structure.

Authorities have rushed to the site to assess the extent of the damage. Restoration experts and engineers are expected to carry out an inspection to determine the cause of the collapse.

The latest collapse has intensified calls from heritage experts for urgent maintenance and stronger protection measures.

Notably, torrential rains have disrupted normal life in several parts of Rajasthan, with Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Tonk facing a flood-like situation. Several districts in Rajasthan recorded over 10 cm of rainfall till Saturday morning, leading to widespread waterlogging.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Bhilwara and Chittorgarh, while an orange alert is in place for Bundi, Kota, Pali, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, Jalore, and Sirohi.

Amer Fort is one of Rajasthan’s most visited monuments and is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is known for its blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture, intricate carvings, and expansive courtyards. It draws thousands of tourists daily and is a major part of Jaipur’s cultural identity.

The fort was constructed in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I and was expanded by subsequent rulers. It served as the capital of the Kachwaha Rajput dynasty before the capital was moved to Jaipur in 1727.
