Volkswagen launched operations in Sri Lanka with the India-made Taigun and Virtus models.Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) on Friday launched the Volkswagen brand in Sri Lanka, marking the automaker’s entry into the neighbouring passenger vehicle market through a partnership with local distributor Continental Cars and Commercials Ltd.
Volkswagen will begin operations in Sri Lanka with the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan, both manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune and exported from India.
“With our partner Continental Cars and Commercials Ltd, we are proud to introduce Volkswagen in Sri Lanka, beginning with the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan,” said Piyush Arora, MD and CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited.
As part of the rollout, the companies opened a 3S (sales, service and spares) facility in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte near Colombo, equipped with more than 20 service bays to support retail and after-sales operations.
“Our focus is to build the Volkswagen brand with the right product mix, a strong retail presence, and a dependable after-sales experience that gives customers confidence from day one,” said Jan Bures, Executive Director, Sales, Marketing and Digital, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited.
The move also strengthens SAVWIPL’s export-led regional expansion strategy, with India remaining a manufacturing base for overseas markets.
