Tesla registrations in Germany quadruple in March

Tesla’s vehicle registrations in Germany more than quadrupled in March from a year ‌earlier, data from the German road traffic agency KBA showed on Tuesday.

Newly registered Tesla cars jumped 315.1 per cent year-on-year to 9,252 units in March, the KBA said. Registrations in the first quarter rose 160 per cent ‌to 12,829 vehicles.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD also saw registrations surge 327.1 per cent to 3,438 units in March, bringing its first-quarter total to 9,120 vehicles.

Overall, new registrations of battery-electric vehicles in Germany increased 66.2 per cent in March to 70,663 units, ‌according to the agency.

Tesla saw car registrations jump across several key European markets in March after its regional market share nearly halved in 2025, hurt by intensifying competition, a lack of new models and consumer backlash to CEO Elon Musk’s political stance.
