Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) on Tuesday announced the production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its manufacturing facility in Pune, marking a new phase for the compact SUV in the domestic and export markets.

The latest version of the Taigun introduces updated styling and additional features, while retaining its positioning in the mid-size SUV segment. The model is manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant, which serves as a key production hub for both Indian sales and exports.

The Taigun, first launched in 2021, has seen cumulative production of over 143,000 units in India so far, with exports accounting for around 30 per cent of output. The refreshed version is expected to build on this volume as demand for compact SUVs continues to remain strong in the country.

The vehicle is developed to suit Indian driving conditions and is part of the company’s broader localisation strategy, which aims to increase domestic manufacturing content and strengthen India’s role as an export base.

“The Taigun stands as a perfect example of this approach, engineered in line with Volkswagen’s global benchmarks and produced in India with a sharp focus on efficiency, quality, and safety,” said Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited.

With production now underway, the updated Taigun will join the company’s existing lineup of locally manufactured models, including sedans and SUVs, as automakers continue to expand offerings in one of the fastest-growing passenger vehicle segments in India.

“Since its launch, the Taigun has been instrumental in strengthening the brand’s SUV strategy,” said Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India.
