A couple in Bihar’s Vaishali district allegedly died by suicide after their families disapproved of the relationship. Sunaina Devi, a 35-year-old mother of three children, and Manibhushan Kumar, 45, a veterinary doctor, allegedly consumed poison.

Police said Sunaina had been in a relationship with Manibhushan for the past five years. Despite multiple panchayat interventions aimed at ending their affair, the two continued to meet in secret, according to the Times of India.

While Sunaina died at the spot, Manibhushan lost consciousness and was admitted to a hospital. He was referred to another hospital, but he died on the way there. The police returned their bodies to their families after post-mortem.

In an unrelated incident, a 50-year-old police constable allegedly attempted suicide by drinking a disinfectant following an argument with his wife over the loss of mobile phone data during repairing, according to officials.

The constable, identified as Pramod Dalvi, had taken his wife’s damaged phone to a repair shop, where the shopkeeper formatted it during servicing, resulting in complete data loss. The matter sparked an argument at home, after which Dalv consumed two sips of phenyl from a bathroom bottle on August 17.
