Tesla has begun customer deliveries of the Model Y from its newly inaugurated Gurugram facility, with several prominent members of India’s startup ecosystem among the first to take home the electric SUV.

In a post from the company’s official handle, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma and former Zomato food delivery CEO Rakesh Ranjan were seen at the Orchid Business Park centre, which opened on November 26. Deliveries began just days after the launch event, signalling early traction for Tesla’s India operations.

The Elon Musk-led EV maker has sold 140 units in India so far this year since bookings opened in mid-July, according to an Economic Times report.

The Gurugram site is Tesla’s third facility in the country. Unlike its earlier spaces in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex and Delhi’s Aerocity — largely positioned as experience centres — the new location provides consultations, bookings and test drives, reflecting a more structured retail strategy. Sharad Agarwal, who took charge in November and previously headed Lamborghini India, leads the centre.

Tesla has introduced two fully imported Model Y variants in India, priced at ₹59.89 lakh and ₹67.89 lakh, both shipped from Shanghai and subject to a 70 per cent import duty. This makes the models nearly 30 per cent more expensive compared to the US market.

In August, the company leased 33,475 sq ft of retail and service space at Orchid Business Park for a monthly rent of ₹40 lakh. Tesla is also working to establish a wider charging ecosystem across homes, commercial destinations and major cities.

Once the Gurugram station is commissioned, Tesla will operate four charging locations in India, comprising 16 superchargers and 10 destination chargers.

Globally, Tesla continues to maintain its lead in the EV market, delivering nearly 4.97 lakh vehicles in the September quarter of 2025 and reporting a 12 per cent rise in revenue to $28.1 billion.
