Kantara 2 mints over Rs 21 crore since its OTT release

Rishab Shetty’s 'Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1' mints over Rs 21 crore since its OTT release

In an exhilarating development for Indian cinema, Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ is leading the charts as the top blockbuster of 2025, securing its place as the seventh-highest grosser overall. The film’s theatrical run has dazzled audiences, yet its OTT rollout in multiple languages, with the exception of Hindi, has somewhat affected its ability to eclipse ‘Jawan’.

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 has been on a record breaking spree since the day of its release, it is now the biggest hit of 2025 and 7th biggest hit of Indian Cinema. The film was released in multiple languages with Hindi and Kannada being the biggest engines. In Hindi it has gone on to become the 37th biggest hit . But on 29th day of its release the film was released on OTT in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages while Hindi was held back so it can complete its 8 week in the cinema halls. Kantara 2 had the potential to cross the lifetime collection of Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee’s Jawan which would have made it the sixth biggest of Indian Cinema, the film had minted Rs 640. 25 crore from its theatrical business.Kantara 2’s total collection till now is Rs 620.91 crore- a gap of less than Rs 20 crore. On paper the gap looks big but if only the OTT release would have been held back- the gap would have been filled up before the film would have completed its 8 weeks. The Hindi version of the film has added Rs 12.82 crore since its OTT release while the Kannada version has added Rs 6.41 crore to the kitty. Telugu version brought in Rs 49 lakh while Tamil version contributed Rs 1.53 crore and Malayalam version collected Rs 36 lakh. Overall the film has added Rs 21.61 crore to its kitty since its OTT release. The film would have easily added another Rs 10 crore to its total collection and narrowed the gap between itself and Jawan.Kantara 2 features Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram and Rakimini Vasanth in pivotal roles, the makers have also announced the third part with the climax of the second part.
