David Dhawan: Satish Shah’s health worsened after kidney transplant

'He used to get his dialysis...': David Dhawan remembers long-time friend Satish Shah, reveals his health worsened after kidney transplant

Filmmaker David Dhawan mourns the loss of his 50-year friend, actor Satish Shah, who passed away at 74 after a kidney transplant. Dhawan shared fond memories of Shah’s resilience, even meeting friends on set during dialysis. Sachin Pilgaonkar revealed Shah’s transplant was to care for his wife, who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

David Dhawan remembered his long-time friend Satish Shah after the latter passed away at 74 on October 25. He was suffering from kidney ailment. The filmmaker revealed that Shah’s health worsened after he got a transplant.

Shah continued meeting friends despite health issues

In conversation with Hindustan Times, Dhawan shared, “I have such great memories with him. He used to get his dialysis done from Leelavati Hospital in Mumbai. If I would be shooting in Mehboob Studios, I used to ask him ‘aayega?’ he used to come and meet everyone on set! He was perfectly okay, but the problem started after the kidney transplant. He was in Kolkata too for some time.”

‘We knew each other for 50 years,’ says Dhawan

Elaborating further, he added, “Usko yaad karke hanste the hum sab FTII wale. His friend circle was very big. We did meet in the recent times, par phone pe bahot gappe maarte the. He would keep sending me some random message or cartoons, I would ask ‘kya kar raha hai Satish!’ He had stopped working also some time back, he said ‘bahot kaam kar liya ab araam karna hai’ I said ‘meri film main shuru karunga, terko lena hai usme’ He had replied ‘haan teri wali kar lunga’.”“You don’t even know how close we were. We passed out from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) together. Forget the number of films we did, we knew each other for 50 years! I did my editing, he did acting. This news is a shock,” David Dhawan expressed.

Sachin Pilgaonkar reveals Satish’s transplant was for his wife

Earlier, in an interview with News18 Showsha, Sachin Pilgaonkar shared that Satish Shah got a transplant to take care of his wife suffering from Alzheimer’s. “Satish and Madhu have always been extremely warm and lovable. We saw to it that we invited them to the premieres of all our films. They used to come for the screenings, the parties. They were always there in our list of guests and invitees. We couldn’t celebrate anything without them,” he said.Pilgaonkar added, “And now, I’m wondering how we can celebrate events without him! Unfortunately, even Madhu isn’t well. She has Alzheimer’s. This year, Satish got his kidney transplanted. He wanted to extend his life so that he could take care of Madhu. He was on dialysis. Earlier, he underwent a bypass surgery, which was successful.” Go to Source
