Barcelona exploring ways to keep Marcus Rashford without triggering £26m buy clause: Report

Barcelona are reportedly looking to keep Marcus Rashford beyond his loan from Manchester United without paying the £26 million purchase option. Rashford has impressed with three goals and five assists so far, but his long-term future at Camp Nou still remains uncertain.

Barcelona are reportedly looking for ways to keep Marcus Rashford at the club next season without activating the £26 million purchase option in his loan deal from Manchester United. The 27-year-old joined the Catalan side on a season-long loan this summer after returning from a short spell at Aston Villa.

Barcelona sporting director Deco recently clarified that the club has an option, not an obligation, to buy Rashford permanently. According to reports from Diario Sport, the La Liga champions are not expected to pay the £26 million fee next summer, despite Rashford’s promising start to the campaign.

If Rashford keeps performing well, Barcelona may try to keep him in Spain. However, this could be done by negotiating a lower fee or arranging another loan deal for the 2026-27 season rather than triggering the current purchase clause. It is unclear if Manchester United would agree to such an arrangement.

Rashford continues to impress in La Liga

Since moving to Spain, Rashford has scored three goals and provided five assists across all competitions. He also scored his first La Liga goal against Sevilla over the weekend, even though Barcelona lost 4-1. For now, Rashford’s long-term future at Barcelona remains uncertain, but the club seems keen to find a solution that keeps him at Camp Nou beyond the current season.

“The important thing is that he gains confidence, and scoring two goals in this stadium, in his home country, will help him. We’re helping him. But I’m not surprised. He’s an outstanding player, with great talent, as I said. His finishing is fantastic. We need a player like him,” Barca coach Hansi Flick said after he scored a brace against Newcastle United in the Champions League.

Rashford was not in Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim’s plans last season and spent the second half of the year on loan at Aston Villa. Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Rashford and several other United players were made available for transfer. He joined Barcelona on a season-long loan in July.
