Haryana ADGP Shoots Himself Dead At Chandigarh Residence; Body Sent For Autopsy

A senior IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, Y Puran Kumar, died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself at his government residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to officials, Kumar was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) at the Police Training College, Sunaria (Rohtak).

His body was discovered inside his private residence in Chandigarh and later moved to Sector 16 Hospital for a post-mortem, said officials.

Police sources said forensic and CFSL teams have been called to the spot to investigate the incident.

“We got information of a shooting at around 1:30 PM at Sector 11 Police Station. When we reached here, we found that a reported suicide had taken place. The body of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was found at his residence. The CFSL team has reached the spot, and an investigation is underway. More details will be known after the post-mortem,” said Kanwardeep Kaur, Chandigarh SSP.

Kumar, a 2010-batch IPS officer, was survived by his wife, Amneet P Kumar, an IAS officer currently on an official visit to Japan as part of a delegation accompanying the Chief Minister.

Following the tragic incident, several senior officers and locals gathered outside the officer’s residence as the investigation continued.
