‘Troublemaker; should see a doctor’: Trump criticises Greta Thunberg as she arrives in Greece

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg landed in Greece on Monday along with scores of fellow campaigners expelled from Israel after trying to ship aid to Gaza

US President Donald Trump on Monday labelled Greta Thunberg a “troublemaker” and said she had “an anger management problem” after the Swedish climate activist reached Greece following her expulsion from Israel.

Thunberg, accompanied by fellow campaigners, was detained in Israel for attempting to deliver aid to Gaza as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla.

Speaking via the White House rapid response account, Trump said, “She is just a troublemaker. You know, she is no longer into the environment, now she is a troublemaker. She has an anger management problem. I think she should see a doctor. If you ever watch her, for a young person, she’s so angry. She’s so crazy. You can have her.”

Flotilla mission and protest

The Global Sumud Flotilla departed Barcelona in early September, aiming to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid. Israel intercepted the vessels off Egypt, describing the flotilla as an offshoot of Hamas and stating the boats had violated a prohibited zone with little aid on board. Israeli police arrested over 470 people, with 138 remaining in detention.

Following her arrival in Athens, Thunberg expressed disappointment at being expelled, calling the mission “the biggest ever attempt to break Israel’s illegal and inhumane siege by sea.” She urged global action to prevent what she called Israel’s “genocide” of Palestinians. Activists at Athens airport unfurled a large Palestinian flag, chanting for Palestinian freedom.
