US Supreme Court rejects Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell’s appeal against conviction

The US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal by Ghislaine Maxwell, the imprisoned associate of Jeffrey Epstein, who sought to overturn her conviction for sex trafficking and related crimes.

The US Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal filed by Ghislaine Maxwell, the jailed associate of Jeffrey Epstein, seeking to overturn her criminal conviction.

Maxwell had argued that her prosecution violated a 2007 non-prosecution deal federal authorities made with Epstein, which she claimed also protected his associates. The Supreme Court declined to hear her case and did not explain its decision, effectively upholding her conviction.

“We’re, of course, deeply disappointed that the Supreme Court declined to hear Ghislaine Maxwell’s case,” her attorney David O. Markus said in a statement. “But this fight isn’t over. Serious legal and factual issues remain, and we will continue to pursue every avenue available to ensure that justice is done.”

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Maxwell, a British socialite, was convicted in 2021 for recruiting and grooming teenage girls for sexual abuse by Epstein between 1994 and 2004. She is serving a 20-year prison sentence and was moved from a low-security facility in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas last year.

Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

This is a developing story.
