Mohan Yadav met families of 14 children who died in Chhindwara after consuming Coldrif cough syrup.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday met the families of the children in Chhindwara who died in the recent cough syrup incident.
Speaking to ANI, during the visit, Yadav said he had come to express condolences and assure the families of strict action. “Those who are responsible for this have been suspended,” he said, indicating that officials linked to the incident had been held accountable.

The Chief Minister added that he had written to the Tamil Nadu government, urging it to act against the company that manufactured the cough syrup. “Taking the matter into cognisance, the government there has banned all those products,” Yadav said, referring to the suspension of the company’s products in Tamil Nadu following the incident.
This comes after as many as 14 children in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara have died due to suspected renal failure after they consumed the Coldrif cough syrup.
Later, officials stated that the samples of the drug were found to contain 48.6 per cent diethylene glycol, a highly toxic substance. Subsequently, the Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday banned the sale of Coldrif cough syrup.
A test report sent by the Tamil Nadu FDA to the Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday confirmed that a sample of Coldrif cough syrup was found to be adulterated.
The diethylene glycol, or the DGE, found in the syrup, is an industrial chemical used in anti-freeze and brake fluids, and is known to cause acute kidney failure and death when ingested.
In response to the tragedy, the Centre has taken a tough stand and is promising a massive crackdown on all drug makers found to be compromising quality.
The CDSCO has directed risk-based inspections of drug manufacturing units nationwide to identify regulatory lapses and prevent future quality failures. It has also urged strict action against the Tamil Nadu-based manufacturer under scrutiny, M/s Sresan Pharmaceutical.
