A morning walk turned tragic when a speeding car rammed into four pedestrians in Ghaziabad’s Sihani Gate area, killing three women and leaving a man critically injured, police said.

The accident took place around 5.45 am on Rakesh Marg along GT Road, when the victims- all residents of New Kotagaon- were out for their daily walk. CCTV footage of the incident shows the three women, dressed in salwar kameez, crossing the road with a man when a white car suddenly ploughed into them before crashing into the divider.

The deceased were identified as Kamlesh (55), Meenu Prajapati (56) and Savitri Devi (60). The injured, Vipin Sharma (48), a resident of Shyam Vihar Colony, was rushed to a private hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police said the impact of the crash was devastating- two women died on the spot while the third succumbed during treatment at the district hospital. Eyewitnesses estimate the car was travelling at nearly 100 kmph. Station House Officer (Sihani Gate) Sachin Kumar said, “At a T-point on the road, the vehicle, which was coming from the other side, hit them. Three women died.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nandgram) Upasna Pandey confirmed that a case has been registered and the car seized.

“The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. Legal proceedings are underway, and he will be arrested soon. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” she said.

Police are analysing CCTV footage to identify and arrest the driver.
