The Haryana Police have arrested a YouTuber named Wasim Akram from Palwal district for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and its High Commission, officials have said.

The YouTuber, a resident of Kot village in Palwal, ran a channel on the social media platform where he used to post videos on the history of Mewat. He was arrested on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported.

According to police, Akram had been in touch with Pakistani agents for the past three years and allegedly provided SIM cards to them. Several incriminating WhatsApp chats were recovered from his phone, including some deleted messages, which the cyber cell is attempting to retrieve.

Akram’s arrest followed days after Palwal police detained another Pakistani spy, Taufiq, who provided the authorities with information about Akram. Taufiq, a resident of Alimev village in the district, was arrested on September 26.

Akram’s Link With Pakistan

As per the police, the YouTuber first came in contact with Pakistani agent Danish in 2021 while applying for a visa to Pakistan. While his family denied any travel to the neighbouring country, several facts during interrogation pointed to cross-border connections.

According to police, both Akram and Taufiq were in contact with the ISI and the Pakistan High Commission through internet calls.

“Both the accused were in touch with the Pakistan High Commission and ISI. Crime branch teams are questioning them after taking them on police remand,” Palwal SP Varun Singla said, as quoted by the news agency.

The SP has assigned the Palwal crime branch and other concerned authorities to thoroughly investigate the case.

The Intelligence Bureau is also in touch with the police. More arrests are likely to be made in the case in the coming days, police said.

Taufiq’s arrest followed a similar case in Rajasthan, where Hanif Khan, a resident of Basanpir Juni, Jaisalmer, was arrested by the Rajasthan CID Intelligence. Khan was accused of sending confidential information about army movements to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), including during Operation Sindoor.
