A British-Pakistani man has been sentenced to 35-years of imprisonment after being found guilty of a string of serious child sex offences dating back nearly 25 years.

The investigators described Mohammed Zahid, the accused, as ringleader. He was convicted of 20 charges, including rape, indecency with a child, and attempting to procure a girl for unlawful sex.

Besides, Zahid, six other men were also sentenced in connection with the abuse, bringing the combined prison terms to 174 years, according to Greater Manchester Police.

The court was told that Zahid groomed the two girls, gave them alcohol and drugs, and then handed them over to other men who also abused them.

The victims, who used to call Zahid “bossman“, suffered exploitation for years. Prosecutors said the abuse caused lasting harm and described the men’s actions as showing “calculated cruelty.”

The trial took place at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, where Zahid was found guilty on all charges. Six other men, also Pakistani natives, were convicted for their involvement in the crime and sentenced different prison terms.

According to detective chief inspector Guy Laycock, “These seven men preyed on vulnerability for their own depraved sexual gain.”

“The men abused, degraded and then discarded the victims when they were just children. This horrific abuse knew no limits, despite their denials throughout this lengthy investigation and court case. They had a callous disregard for these women when they were girls and continue to show no remorse for their unforgivable actions all these years later,” he said.
