A woman in Bihar who recently married her teacher has appealed to both families to let the couple live in peace, in a video that went viral on Monday.

She stated in the video that she is over 18 and married of her own free will.

Sindhu Kumari, a Class 12 student preparing for a government job, had been attending a coaching centre in Jamui district, where she became close to her teacher, Prabhakar Mahato, a serving police officer who joined the force six months ago.

Both families opposed the relationship.

Kumari’s relatives denied any plans for the marriage, while Mahato’s family in Lakhisarai district also objected.

Realising that their families would not consent, the couple eloped last week and married at a temple.

In the video, the couple expressed fear over potential backlash from their families.

Kumari said she was concerned her family might harass Mahato’s relatives.

She also clarified that Mahato did not kidnap her and appealed to the police not to take action against her husband or his family.

Mahato, in turn, sought protection and security, affirming his love for Kumari and stating that they intended to stay together for life.
