Ukraine experts deploy mission in Denmark to counter drones after reported Russian incursions

Amid rising drone incursions and airspace violations across Europe, Ukrainian military has launched a mission in Denmark to provide practical insights based on Ukraine’s frontline experience in defending against drone attacks

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday announced that the Ukrainian military has launched a mission in Denmark to share its expertise in countering drone threats.

According to Ukrainian outlet Censor.NET, in a statement posted on his official Telegram channel, Zelenskyy said the initiative aims to provide Denmark and allied nations with practical insights based on Ukraine’s frontline experience in defending against drone attacks.

“Our group of specialists has begun deploying a mission in Denmark to share Ukraine’s experience in countering drones. Our guys arrived to take part in the joint exercises with partners, which could become the foundation for a new system to counter Russian and any other drones,” said Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine’s experience in drone warfare is currently the most relevant in Europe, highlighting the country’s potential role in shaping the continent’s aerial defence.

“Ukraine’s experience is the most relevant in Europe today, and it is precisely our expertise, our specialists, and our technologies that can become a key element of future Europe’s Drone Wall – a large-scale project that will guarantee security in the skies,” he added.

He added that the Commander-in-Chief had reported the team’s first update from Denmark, where a Ukrainian mission is now underway to share counter-drone strategies.

Zelenskyy said he has instructed the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence, and the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council to work swiftly with all capable European partners to establish an effective drone defense system.

“The results of the mission in Denmark will serve as the foundation for future cooperation with other European countries,” he said.

The launch of the Ukrainian mission comes at a time of heightened aerial security concerns across Europe.

Last week, Denmark reported several unexplained drone sightings over civilian airports and a military base, leading to temporary airport closures and widespread travel disruption for tens of thousands of passengers.

The incidents have added urgency to upcoming high-level meetings in Copenhagen, where top European leaders will gather on Wednesday for a European Council meeting focused on defence and Ukraine. A European Political Community summit is also scheduled for the following day in the Danish capital.

The continent has been on high alert in recent weeks due to a series of drone sightings and airspace violations, including incursions by Russian drones into Nato member states Poland and Romania, and a recent breach of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets.

Against this backdrop, Ukraine’s role as a hub of drone defence knowledge and technology is being increasingly recognised by European partners seeking to shore up their own aerial security infrastructure.
