Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati was apprehended from Agra in the early hours of Sunday.

As the probe into the Delhi ashram scandal deepens, the Delhi Police have made two more arrests in connection with the case. Two female accomplices of self-styled godman, Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, accused of sexually harassing 17 women, have now been taken into custody.

The two women are currently being interrogated by the police. According to sources, Chaitanyananda has not been cooperating during questioning and is allegedly providing false information to the investigators.

Police have also recovered chat conversations with multiple women from one of his phones. Additionally, they found screenshots of several women’s profile pictures stored on his device.

As the investigation gathered momentum, Chaitanyananda was arrested and remanded to five-day police custody by a Delhi court. He was apprehended from Hotel First in the Taj Ganj area of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, around 3:30 am on Sunday, and brought to Vasant Kunj Police Station in Delhi.

Accused Of Harassing Students And Financial Fraud

Chaitanyananda is accused of molesting 17 female students at a private institute in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj. He had allegedly sent lewd and inappropriate messages to young women and had been absconding for nearly two months.

Police also uncovered his involvement in multiple fraudulent activities, including forging visiting cards and passports. Two fake visiting cards were recovered: one identifying him as a Permanent Ambassador of the United Nations, and the other as an Indian Special Envoy of BRICS.

In addition to sexual harassment, he also faces charges of financial misappropriation. Police say that after fleeing, he withdrew approximately Rs 60 lakh, and is believed to have misappropriated more than Rs 30 crore overall.

Targeted Women From Vulnerable Backgrounds

Chaitanyananda allegedly targeted women from economically weaker backgrounds. The first complaint was filed on August 4 at the Vasant Kunj North Police Station, with another complaint lodged by an Indian Air Force officer.

Following the complaints, the institute received a letter from Air Force headquarters, as many of the students at the institute were daughters of Air Force personnel. In response, the Governing Council of the Peetham held a virtual meeting on August 3 with over 30 female students.

During the investigation, police recorded the statements of 32 students, 17 of whom accused Chaitanyananda of using abusive language, sending obscene messages, and making unwanted physical advances.

Disturbing Allegations And Threats

Students alleged that Chaitanyananda frequently asked intrusive questions about their personal and sexual lives — including whether they had sex with boyfriends or used condoms. He also sent messages like “Baby, I love you” and threatened students with suspension or expulsion if they rejected his advances.

Records show that Chaitanyananda has a history of similar allegations, with two molestation cases filed against him in 2009 and 2016.
