‘Best Oval Office ever’: Was Trump’s 24k White House post the ultimate tone-deaf move after the Michigan church shooting?

The video shared by Trump displayed gold-coloured wall pieces, apparently ready for installation in the White House

US President Donald Trump, never one to shy away from glitz, shared a video on Truth Social, flaunting his gold-loaded makeover of the White House—but while the bling was bold, the timing has raised more than a few eyebrows.

In his second term, the president has used the White House for personal redesigns, including changing the Rose Garden and adding a huge ballroom. Most interestingly, the 79-year-old added tacky gold items and decorations everywhere.

He posted a silent video of dozens of shiny ornaments on a table, claiming it was “some of the highest quality 24 Karat Gold used in the Oval Office and Cabinet Room of the White House.” He bragged that leaders are amazed by the quality and beauty, calling it the “best Oval Office ever.”

Trump posted his gold video on Sunday just as Americans were receiving updates on a deadly shooting at a Mormon church in Michigan, where a veteran killed at least four people. Trump posted about the “horrendous shooting” around 1 pm, with his gold video surfacing at around 4:30 pm.

Social media users slammed the poor timing, with one asking,  “HOW is he posting THIS after what happened last night in NC, and today in Michigan?”  Another user criticised Vice President JD Vance’s post where he said the “entire administration is monitoring things” by slamming, “Monitoring? No Trump is busy bragging about his 24kt gold…”

During a March Oval Office tour, when questioned about the new gold by a Fox News host, Trump said he felt the room needed “a little life.” He also admitted the challenge of making gold paint look like actual gold, according to The Guardian.

A White House spokesperson later told Fox News that Trump paid for all the “highest quality” gold decor himself. Even though some pieces were seen primed white, some believe they were likely coated with gold paint or gold leaf.
